How does doTERRA ensure that its essential oils are pure?
Since the beginning, they have seen it as their mission to share pure, high-quality essential oils with the world. However, since there was no clear standard for the purity of essential oils, doTERRA decided to set the standard for purity in the essential oil industry.
Not all essential oil companies choose to operate under strict testing standards. In truth, many people skip important steps in order to save money or time. Unfortunately, without performing the appropriate tests, it is impossible to ensure that an essential oil is truly "pure".
To ensure that each bottle of essential oil is pure and free of impurities or synthetic fillers, doTERRA has created a process called CPTG™ Certified Pure Tested Grade. - Production practices: Does the company use safety procedures to prevent pollution during production? Are there impurities in the oils or are synthetic fillers added?
- Testing methods: Does the company test every batch of essential oils? Do they use unbiased third-party testing? Are the test results available to the public?
- Storage and handling: Are processing, packaging and storage done with due care to avoid chemical changes due to heat or light? (Typically, amber glass is the best choice for storing essential oils.)
Ensuring the Purity of Essential Oils: The CPTG Process
DoTERRA also begins its CPTG testing process shortly after distillation, when the chemical composition of each oil is reviewed. The second round of testing is performed at doTERRA's manufacturing facility to verify that the oils distilled and tested in the first round are the same oils that arrived at our facility. Then, when the oils are bottled, a third review of the chemical composition of the oils is carried out before they are delivered to the customers.
Each test is carried out to ensure that the essential oils do not contain any impurities and that no unexpected changes occur during production.
